Species: Barracuda

Barracuda

Barracudas are plentiful in the Lower Keys. In winter they move onto the flats in large numbers seeking warmth. Barracudas are here year round but are mostly targeted in the winter because they'll occupy the flats when all other fish have vacated. Barracudas are very underrated as a sports fish. They attack quickly and explosively, go on searing runs, and will jump and cartwheel. Because of their position on the food chain, barracudas are not nearly as boat shy as other species and make a great target. Barracuda caught on the flats average between ten and thirty pounds.
